First Newsletter

After three years in the making and over one year since Lost Arts Simplicity became an LLC here in Frisco, Texas, I thought it might be time to send out this first communication to all my customers, friends and supporters. My website and online shop are updated, and will be continually refined. Here I hope to share with you what my small business is all about, and what led to it. The FAQ section may be helpful as well. You can also take a glance at my mission, purpose and goal here.

Many of you may already know by now that my shop is not just about bag-making, or a general sewing or embroidery service — although these elements are all part of the business. Rather, it’s what’s on everything, and the notions that go into making them:

·    The Catholic symbolism and imageries which convey the truth and beauty of our Faith.

·    The artistry and craftsmanship of handmade products.

·    The reduction of the status of bags and such to their proper place as useful objects — yet at the same time elevated by rich, meaningful images that call attention to the Divine.

In other words, I don’t mean to make just fancy bags and such, but useful, practical things that serve their purpose well and also carry meaning.

Oftentimes imageries conveying the Truth of our Catholic Faith are displayed on walls, in homes, kept within pages of a book, or seen only within churches. Our reverence for sacred images also conceal them from the eyes of the world. I have found that many people have never seen or properly understood many of these images, some of which have miraculous origins or divine significance.

This little shop intends to help bring the Light of Faith visually into the public space and everyday life by whatever means feasible — perhaps to re-orient a mind, stoke a curiosity, or even invite a deeper search. For those who have particular holy devotions or love for sacred art, they can find such devotions highlighted here in a very unconventional way. Presently this is accomplished by embroidery and other modes, applied on anything that is used or carried in daily life. Plus, I make everything from scratch with few exceptions.

For anyone who just simply appreciates the beauty of embroidery or handmade things, they can also find a variety of other motifs ranging from the elegant to the whimsical here. You might be surprised to find a certain charm with items not commercially made.

When you purchase something from my shop, you are not just buying a useful object. Aside from showing where your heart belongs, you are helping to re-energize the courage to show the richness of our Catholic Faith in the modern culture — to re-focus minds and hearts to things that truly matter — the divine life; love of God; the Blessed Mother; the Saints; the Sacraments; Sacred Scripture. At the same time, you help support a domestic small business and keep alive the lost arts of hand-craftsmanship.

There are so many things that can go awry in running a business that doubles as an apostolate, but at the same time, something may go right. You never know! I hope you will continue to be a part of this journey.

Thank you greatly for reading this far. Now if you want, you can go visit my shop! Along with my entire website it is still new and probably still have a few bugs to work out, but if you make it to the check out page, here’s a handy coupon code for a 10% discount: FRIEND23 (valid until 6/31/2023)

Have a great day!

Mary
